City Of Cockburn Minutes – SMRC RRRC WCF Odour Issue – 6 February 2007
2. ANNUAL REPORT 2005/06
Q5. Mr Sherr indicated he would like to see this report. Can Council make comments on the current controversy about the odours emanating from the SMRC site and what the City of Cockburn is doing about it and where it stands on that?
A5. Mayor Lee responded by saying that the City of Cockburn had a 25% share holding in the SMRC, which is currently in the process of spending $2.5 million on upgrades to its stocking and bio-filters to process the odours around the building, so there is a great amount of work being undertaken due for completion in March. The scientific reports are provided by a company called The Odour Unit, a leading scientific company with expertise in this area in Australia. This company confirmed that the work being undertaken at the plant will meet all of the Ministerial conditions for emissions. The DEP has accepted this information and the SMRC is open again for business.
